শেষ পর্যন্ত যা ঘটল! নেপালের প্রভাবশালী দুই নেতাকে হঠাৎ গ্রেপ্তার

নেপালে রাজনৈতিকThe political drama has intensified as former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak were arrested by the police on Saturday. The charges stem from the crackdown on Gen-Z protesters in September last year. This significant development comes just a day after the new Prime Minister Balendra Shah and his cabinet took their oaths.

Kathmandu Valley Police Spokesperson Om Adhikari confirmed the arrests, stating, “They were arrested on Saturday and further legal proceedings will be taken according to the law.”

Last year, kp sharma oli was forced to resign amidst widespread Gen-Z protests, leading to the fall of his government. Following the movement, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) led by Balendra Shah secured a clear majority in the first elections held on March 5.

A commission formed to investigate the violence reported that at least 76 people, including several children, were killed during the anti-corruption youth movement on September 8 and 9 last year. The movement initially sparked due to a temporary ban on social media but had been brewing for a long time due to ongoing economic hardships. The protests escalated nationwide the following day, with incidents of arson at Parliament and government offices.

The interim government’s investigation commission has recommended filing cases against Oli and other officials. Their report noted, “It has not been proven whether any order to open fire was given. However, no efforts were made to stop or control the firing, and several children also lost their lives due to their negligent actions.” The report also indicated that while an order to fire wasn’t proven, a lack of action to control the violence led to fatalities, including children.
