The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan, about 170 kilometers deep into the Earth’s crust, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s earthquake monitoring agency. Residents of major cities including Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Faisalabad, and Multan also felt strong tremors. International agency Reuters reported that the tremor was felt in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, and New Delhi, the capital of India, as well as in the regions of Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.
Fortunately, no casualties or significant damage have been reported so far. This earthquake serves as a stark reminder of the region’s seismic vulnerability, following a 5.8 magnitude earthquake that struck parts of Pakistan in February.
